Paul van Tongeren on Nietzsche, Nihilism, and Culture

Today marks the 174th birthday of Friedrich Nietzsche. Throughout the month, we have been posting a number of short blog posts from our authors and Editorial Advisory Board members reflecting on Nietzsche’s thinking, and his ongoing relevance to our contemporary lives. Today, on his special day, we are delighted to share an extract from Paul van Tongeren’s recent book on Nietzsche, Friedrich Nietzsche and European Nihilism. A pathbreaking book that caused a stir when presented at the recent Friedrich Nietzsche Society conference at Newcastle University, Paul’s book is set to take its place as the definitive history and analysis of Nietzsche’s understanding of nihilism, and has already been described in a recent review as having “tremendous value for those who want to better understand the thinker and the topic [nihilism].”
